Road to Roo: Day 1

So I’m sure everyone has been waiting to hear about my vacation, and I am extremely excited to share it with you. However, we had such an action packed super fun time that I’m going to have to talk about it in multiple posts… otherwise this one post would just be a novel!

So anyways, we left bright and early on June 6th at 7am to head to St. Louis, MO. When we arrived in St. Louis we headed straight for the Zoo! It was so much fun and the zoo was so cool.It was really hot and humid that day, which made it very difficult for me to walk around. On top of the heat and humidity, the zoo was huge! By the end I was really tired from walking around, but I also loved that we got to see the whole zoo. I think my favorite exhibit was the hippo exhibit. It let you see them swim underwater, and I think I counted 3 or 4 hippos! The big cat exhibit was kind of a let down. They were all hiding inside because it was so hot out. We only got to see a tiger for a little bit. The elephants and giraffes were my other two favorite exhibits. Their areas were huge and there were so many of each of them. The best part about the zoo as a whole was the way the whole place felt like you were walking in the habitat that the animals were in. In the forest section, the walkways were all covered with overgrowth and in the desert area you were stuck in the sun. I love animals, so I’m so happy that we were able to go to the zoo and I was able to last the whole time even in the heat!

After the zoo we were hungry, naturally. Andy really wanted to go to this famous BBQ places called Pappy’s that he went to with his family when he was younger. Let me tell you, it was DELICIOUS! I got the beef brisket and Andy got burnt ends and pulled pork. We sampled all of their sauces and found our favorites and shared our food. It was all so delicious. My favorite sauce was their homemade BBQ sauce. It was the perfect mix of spice and flavor.

Next, we had to work off everything we ate. So by a recommendation from my brother-in-law we went to the City Museum, which is not even a museum at all! This was one of the coolest places I have been. It looked like they just took a bunch of stuff and made it into sculptures and different obstacles that you can climb. There wasn’t a single area in the whole building that didn’t have some hole or crevice you could crawl in. It was crazy! Also, every time we went into a room it was a different room! I can’t believe that we didn’t get more lost while we were exploring the area. On one of our adventures we found a 10-story slide! It took me a really long time to get to the top, as I was partially wiped only halfway up the stairs, but it was so worth it. The most fun part was the room that was at the bottom of the slide. It was just a room that was a bunch of caves and catacombs. There were so many different places to crawl and explore! This place was so great; I highly recommend it!

After all the excitement of the day, we headed to some family friends to stay for the night. It was so fun getting to catch up and see friendly faces. Not to mention we got to eat breakfast outside with a GORGEOUS view!
